Consumer Confidence

Greetings,
As I look at the damage caused by Hurricane/Superstorm Sandy, my thoughts are with all of us who were impacted by the storm.  It was quite an experience.  As you read this blog, I hope you're someplace warm and safe.

Secondly, as I read the national news, things may be looking up.  Consumer confidence has jumped to a five year high.  Why does this matter?  Well, if you can't get any gasoline and you have no heat, it may be small comfort.  Nonetheless, this Reuters report indicates that inventory and consumer sentiment are both up.  If you can make it to train station, a bus stop, or find some gasoline, chances are you'll be able to visit stores with a bunch of stuff on the shelves.  That's not to mention all the museums and other less consumer-oriented cultural opportunities which are re-opening.  Given time, things will get back to whatever passes for normal on Long Island.  In the meantime, hang in there and catch me in the library.
