Welcome Back (Officially)

Greetings,
Hurricane/Tropical Storm Irene packed quite a punch! Now that class is back in session, things are getting back to normal at Old Westbury Library. Computers in the Library's "Learning Commons" area were recently updated with the latest Microsoft Office package and Windows software. Yes, we have Word 2010 now. Microsoft Office 2010 is an excellent package. The improvements are pretty sharp. Indeed, it's gotten some positive reviews in the tech press

This may sound a little basic but flash drives are really important.  If you're planning to write a paper, don't leave home without one!  Remember to save early and often.  Whether it's tropical storms or even accidentally turning a power strip off, computers can lose power and (more importantly) students lose their work.  Seriously, shop around and you can get a nice flash drive for around $15.  In fact, if you look around, sometimes office supply stores offer specials on flash drives for under 10 bucks.  Last I checked, that's less than the price of a pack of cigarettes in Long Island -not that I approve of smoking, mind you.  The point is that these things aren't terribly expensive.  Compared to college tuition, textbooks, and such, a flash drive is a drop in the bucket.  Oh, and those drives can store a heroic amount of papers, PowerPoint slides -you name it.  Until next time, catch me in the library.
