Chip Cards

There's quite a bit of change floating around with credit cards.  Many new credit cards have chips.  These chips are intended to provide better security.  The trouble is that they can take longer to use than swiping a card.  As this Wall Street Journal article notes, the time spent waiting in line with a chip card can add up:

Fortunately, there appear to be ways to increase the speed of the transaction.  Speaking from personal experience, travelling outside of the United States provides many opportunities to use chip cards.  In many countries, chip cards are already the standard and they work fast.  Meanwhile in the United States, new credit card readers are being launched which read chips much faster.  This could shorten the wait times for credit card transactions -a welcome change the next time you're stuck waiting in line at the grocery store.
