Best and Worst Airlines of 2019

This year was a little rough for air travel...  Well, at least according to the latest Wall Street Journal article on the best and worst airlines:

Here's the thing: Your experience may have varied quite a bit depending on the airline.  Delta received top marks.  Alaska Airlines came in second.  If you've ever flown Alaska, you know exactly what I'm talking about.  And I could tell you stories about Delta.  From first class to basic economy, I've had some good flights.  I've flown Delta internationally.  When I fly to Israel, it's a tough call: El Al or Delta.  El Al definitely has the best hummus in the air and you can wash the food down with complementary spirits.  On a long flight, that's not bad either because a glass of wine here or there can add up fast.  In a way, El Al keeps Delta on their toes.  When you fly to Europe in coach on a domestic courier, a glass of wine will cost you.  When competition like El Al offers free wine and a free checked bag on their least expensive economy seats from North America, Delta ups their game to Israel.  Of course, German carriers will give you free beer (or at least they used to) but that's another story.

A lot of this is tied up in consumer expectations.  Those who want the cheapest price, often get what they pay for -safe transportation with few frills.  I've read all about Ryanair.  They fly all over Europe, not to North America or Israel, though.  In case you're curious, here are the Top Ten Ways to Survive Ryanair:

Here's something I want to see: A list rating all of the world's airlines in order.  The Wall Street Journal says a lot about airlines in the United States.  How do they compare to airlines in Europe?  How about Air Canada and WestJet in Canada?  Having flown quite a bit over the years, I suspect that some of the results may surprise some folks.
