Reading the News...

Well, I was reading the news regularly until our EZProxy hiccupped this weekend.  Sometimes it's a blessing in disguise to unplug on the weekend.  2020 has been a rough year.  The other day, I saw a t-shirt noting that wine is the glue keeping this 2020 show together:

A lot of librarians spend their time worrying about things that don't really matter -even in a pandemic.  I spoke with a librarian the other day.  She was concerned that after telling faculty to use the "right" textbooks that they weren't buying it.  Ah, the village librarian decided to tell a bunch of folks with PhDs what books to use in class and her focus is not about quality, just on price.  In Kansas, we call that "going for cheap" and it's not a good look.  It's not unlike when a guy tells you all about "the many, many things people don't know" in a perfect New York accent.  That gets old.  Well, unless you think that librarians are experts on all subjects.  (We're not.)  My experience has been that the more I learn, the more I realize how much more that's out there.  Anyway, we will get our database access up and running soon.  Classes start soon and our databases are more than newspapers.  Still, it sure beats getting your news from Facebook and Twitter.
