End of the Semester

Greetings,
It's that time of the year.  The library is packed with students finishing off their final assignments.  There was a fascinating article in yesterday's New York Times on student loans.  I saw it on the front page and it's definitely worth reading:

Until next time, catch me in the library.

Libraries and Marketing

Every now and again I see something as a librarian that gives me pause.  Library marketing is becoming a greater part of the library-world and some places are getting really creative when it comes to developing a new library image.  Case in point: Anythink.  It's a group of libraries.  Rather than go with a traditional geographic description for their library system or name the system after a library donor, they decided to give their library a distinct name unlike any other.  If you're interested, here is some more information on Anythink Libraries:

Basically, these public librarians help their patrons find work.  Given the current economic climate, this is a great idea!  They also designed some neat signs and logos to promote library services.  It's an interesting thought.  Promote the public library as a destination and we'll see what happens.  Until next time, catch me in the library.
