What Makes for a Good Job?

In my last post this month, I highlighted strategies for dealing with a toxic work environment.  This time the focus is going to be on what makes for a good job.  Here's a recent survey:

It's interesting to see what makes a job enjoyable.  We also have a number of ebooks available to SUNY Old Westbury students and faculty.  Here's a book called "Letters to a Young Pharmacist: Sage Advice on Life and Career from Extraordinary Pharmacists":

Even if you're not interested in pharmacy, the stories of customer service and attitudes towards developing a philosophy on life have non-pharmacy related applications.  Still, there are other books such as "Conversations with Great Teachers":

Or "Making a Living While Making a Difference..."

These books and article provide some perspective on locating meaningful work.  It's been said that work is about so much more than a paycheck!  Until next time, catch me in the library.

How to Get Through a Difficult Job

Greetings,
Over the years, we've all had jobs that had their challenges.  This article delves into survival solutions for staying in a difficult position:

While the article itself is a bit old, it goes into a number of strategies to determine if you should stay in a position, immediately quit, or start looking for work while keeping your current position.  The article even links to a "Should I Quit My Job" quiz:

These sorts of things can be helpful to determine what specifically you enjoy about your position and what could be better.  Until next time, catch me in the library.
